Mornings can be really tough, especially if you are not a morning person. But did you know that by waking up earlier and restructuring your mornings, you can dramatically increase your productivity, reduce anxiety and just become a happier person? Studies have shown that morning people are more efficient and less likely to be pulled down by external negativity. Luckily, becoming a morning person is a very attainable goal, and you can start right now by making a few small adjustments to your routine. Here are some pointers to help you improve your mornings and reclaim your day:
Think ahead. Get ready for the next day by preparing lunch, setting an alarm and choosing an outfit. Setting pre-bedtime rituals will help you relax and prevent unnecessary stress first thing in the morning.
Avoid screens. We know it’s hard, but set your phone up to charge in the living room instead of near your bed. Give yourself an entire screen-free hour before settling down for the night- this includes TV shows and Facebook! Need something to do? Read a book instead.
Wake up early, and don’t hit snooze. Successful people wake up ready to face the day at 6am (or earlier!). Too early for you? Get to bed earlier the night before! Our bodies function best when we work with our biological clocks and natural light.
Have a ritual. Before getting sucked into emails and texts, take a minute to stretch and get your body warmed up for the day. Maybe even go for a run! Wash your face, do your hair and makeup, get dressed and put on some jewelry. Then spend a few minutes preparing a real breakfast or putting together an energy shake, and share it with your family. Then focus on your day and upcoming tasks, and set practical goals for maximum efficiency.
Avoid mindless tasks. It’s easy to get distracted and lose the morning’s momentum once you sit down at a computer. Practice focus and address important tasks and responsibilities first, then move on to more monotonous activities and chats. Take regular breaks from the computer and listen to music to boost your mood.
Keep your energy levels up. Stretch, walk outside and snack on healthy foods like nuts and fruit throughout the day to stay on top of your game!
We can’t wait to try!
Until next time,
