The weather is getting hooooot, and figuring out what to wear for an afternoon out with the kids is becoming a bit more challenging. Obviously, we want to look cute and trendy, not embarrass the children, and not spend too much time getting organized to get out of the house. And that’s where a capsule-like wardrobe comes in handy. The goal for this year’s summer wardrobe is to be able to pull out two or three random items from your closet, and be set with an original, stylish outfit that will get you through afternoons at the park, the soccer field, ice cream shops, errands and anything else you may have planned.
So what are these magic items? Here at Pearl & Clasp, we’ve narrowed down the top 4 for you:
- Lightweight button-downs. These are uber-useful, flattering and easy. Look for loose cuts that allow for some breathing room in light, basic colors like white or chambray. These versatile tops look great on their own, and are also perfect for layering over or under other items for a more dynamic look.
- A striped tee. Look for something comfortable and durable (read: machine washable) in black and white or navy and white stripes. These pair perfectly with a pop of color like red or yellow shorts or shoes, and also go well under a chambray shirt.
- Mid-length shorts or skorts. There’s no escaping reality, summer is hot and you are bound to be too. Sometimes minimal coverage is the only option. Keep things modest and convenient with shorts or skorts that are perfect for running around with your kids without being to revealing. Look for bright or breezy summer colors and cute cuts to really make your outfit stand out.
- Tee-shirt dresses. Literally the easiest outfit to throw on, t-shirt dresses are cute, summery and flattering. Loose and lightweight they offer a perfect solution to hot summer afternoons, and look amazing with anything from flip flops to Keds or your favorite pair of sneakers. You can add another layer if you’ve gotten bored of the same old dress, like that chambray top or a lightweight vest.
All of these essentials are super easy and require minimal planning. Pair them with light makeup, a casual updo, some killer sunglasses and nicely manicured nails, and you’re all set! For some extra pizzaz, don’t forget your pearls!
