Planning a family vacation can be stressful, even though the end goal is really time to sit back and relax. There is just so much to think about: accommodations, food, where to go, what to do… And, of course, packing. When it comes to kids, you can assume from the get-go that there will be something you failed to anticipate. Still, writing out a list may help you plan for potential scenarios and ultimately be prepared. For the basics, we recommend 2 outfits per day, plus two pairs of pajamas. We like to pack some laundry detergent in case some hand washing is in order- you can easily clean a few items in the sink or bathtub at a hotel or Airbnb. Two pairs of socks and two pairs of underwear per day, though you likely (-hopefully) won’t need them all. Toiletries like shampoo, non-spill sippy cups, a first aid kit with some band aids, some kid-friendly sunscreen if you’re going somewhere sunny (yum!), and a couple of your childrens’ favorite stuffed animals, bedtime stories and/or travel games. If you have a child in diapers, pack 3-4 per day plus plenty of baby wipes, as these will prove useful in so many situations!
Now comes the fun part: packing for you! Chances are your relaxation will be spiced up with lots of outings and running around with your kids, so think practical items first. Comfortable shoes and flipflops will both come in handy, as will outfits that are breezy, flattering and easy. Choose some of your favorites alongside the new things you’re hoping to show off, so that when you’re rushing or feeling tired you know just what to put on. Don’t forget some good (and sexy! underwear, comfortable, flattering bras, and your go-to makeup. Then it’s time for the good stuff. The new sundress you bought, your bathing suit, nailpolish (lots of colors!) and jewelry. Bring lots of options if you can do so easily, but if you can’t, choose only a few. This also makes getting ready easier and lowers the risk of losing your entire collection. If you’re having a hard time choosing, go for the pearl earrings to show off your tan, clunky bangles, and a few pendant necklaces. If you’re planning a late-night date night, pack for that too! Maybe an LBD, some strappy sandals or pumps, and a chic clutch to really channel your inner diva.
What are your favorite things to bring on vacation?
Until next time,
