We don’t know about you, but we just adore holiday sweaters. We embrace them and all of their cheesy, tacky, fuzzy, brightly colored cheer, and we wear them with STYLE! For all you Pinterest-ers, we know you’ve seen the look we’re referring to, but just in case you haven’t had a chance to study it, we’ve done the analyzing for you and are ready to pass the torch. If you’ve got a cozy, bright red, reindeer-patterned sweater hiding under your pillow and waiting for your friends and family to leave, it’s time to bring it out into the holiday light and let it fulfill its purpose.
To master the look you’ll need:
1 pair of black jeans/jeggings/high quality leggings. Don’t underestimate the base of your outfit. Make sure they fit you well, are warm, and are comfortable enough to wear at a party. Avoid any unsightly underwear lines if you are wearing leggings! Those are never ok. Trust us.
1 adorable pair of shoes. You have some wiggle room here, so be creative a choose something flattering and loved from your closet. Pointy ballerina flats, short black booties or knee-high riding boots will all look great once you decide what look you are going for. If you choose boots, add boot socks for a warm, wintery look.
Natural, dewy makeup. If your holiday sweater is in a bold color, tone down the other hues in your outfit by keeping your face neutral and clean. A great BB cream, some mascara and a light pink lipstick work well, as can a smokey eye if you don’t go too heavy with the darker eyeshadow shades.
A hairdo. Of course, your homey sweater will look ridiculous with an over-the-top hairstyle. However, you shouldn’t neglect your locks for this look- blow dry and spritz for some wavy volume, or try a small french braid along the hairline paired with a messy bun. Keep your look casual but put-together to really knock it out of the park.
Jewelry. Like the hair and makeup, your jewelry should be understated and feminine. Try pearl earrings to brighten your face and add some sophistication, or a set of delicate bangles for some added interest. Avoid anything too glamorous with sparkles or large stones, as these can make you look a bit tacky.
Last, but certainly not least, is your smile! Don’t mope around like the Grinch, and let your awesome sweater channel its awesomeness (yes, they’re just that awesome) through you to your loved ones for a merry Christmas and happy holiday season!
Until next time,
