Summer is in high heat already and this is just the beginning. If you’re a working gal, you unfortunately do not have the luxury of lounging in shorts and a t shirt, and getting dressed each morning can be a real challenge. You need to look profesh and stylish without melting during your commute, AND probably struggle with chillier temps once you arrive at the office. So, what’s a girl to wear?

The keys here are layering and accessorizing. Here at Pearl and Clasp we are big fans of understated outfits which can easily be mixed and matched, and we’ve compiled a list of basics that you can work off of to create your own office-ready summer wardrobe with minimal effort:

Loose Tops

Breezy, light and stylish, loose sleeveless or short-sleeved blouses lay a simple, sophisticated foundation for a wide range of accessories. Choose pieces that have small, unique touches to up the fashion factor such as tailoring or interesting seams, interesting necklines or sheer fabrics.

Lightweight Bottoms

If you’re a skirt girl, skirts and dresses are perfect options for summer since they allow the legs to breathe AND look super feminine and stylish. Choose basic-colored pencil or flared skirts for a more traditional look, or branch into mxi skirts or patterns if your workplace is more flexible. If you prefer pants, ditch the thick skinny jeans and break out the jean-style jeggings which are a bit more breathable and comfortable in this weather. These come in a plethora of styles, including solid black trousers and dark solid jeans.

Shoes

Comfort is beautiful, so give your feet a break this season by wearing shoes that look great and feel amazing. Sandals and ballet flats both make summery, flirty statements that add flare to any outfit. If you prefer the sandals look (or feel), give your feet a quick massage with a thick lotion before you go to bed each night to ensure that your toes look healthy and smooth. Throw some nail polish on for a final touch, and your feet are sandal ready! If you prefer closed shoes, ballet flats make a great option for summer and come in a variety of colors, shapes and styles. Both shoes look better with cropped jeans, or jeans that have been rolled slightly to show a bit of ankle. Of course, they go perfectly with dresses and skirts as well.

Accessories

Mix up your outfits with some colorful and exciting accents like lipstick, earrings, lightweight scarves and other jewelry. Don’t be afraid to be bold with pops of color, floral patterns and updos (which have the added bonus of keeping you cool)!
